Profile: ëDoctorí George, so called because of his work with both Kintore and Tjukula health clinics, paints his stories associated with his country called Karrinwarra, west of Jupiter Well.
George was among the last of the desert dwellers to emerge from the Gibson Desert in 1964, to take up residence at the newly formed Papunya Community, an unhappy settlement which non-the-less saw the emergence of a wealth of artistic talents with the introduction of the acrylic painting in 1971.
One of the first to take up the new medium, Georgeís paintings retain a very traditional rendition of design and structure as used in ground painting ceremonies and body art. His Tjingari stories evoke the travels of the Dreamtime ancestors as they ësangí the land into existence. |
