Artist: Maureen Nampajimpa

Language Group: Warlpiri

Home: Mount Allan/Adelaide

Date of Birth: 1959

Dreaming: Fire, water, watiya, wanu.

Maureen has created a work to show the vastness of the sandy regions in her country adjacent to Yuendumu in the Tanami Desert. Though featureless and uninhabitable to our eyes, the desert dwellers could find their way unerringly through this land, as well as being able to find food and water in an apparently barren landscape. The patterns in the dunes are reproduced in this work. The central circle is a waterhole created by ancestral beings. The location of waterholes such as this one are handed down in song and ceremony from the creation times.
